An e-ticket is the electronic version of the conventional paper ticket. It is an electronic record kept in the airline s reservations system.

E-tickets can currently be booked online at www.airindia.com or at our Airport/City offices in Mumbai,Delhi,Hyderabad,Bangalore,Chennai,Ahmedabad and Kolkata. You will need to pay through your credit card when booking online. On purchase, the system will generate your itinerary receipt and display it on the screen. This will have the key information about your reservation and you will need to print the same and produce it at the airport along with your valid photo identification for check-in. In addition an e-mail will be sent to you which can also be printed.
After the booking, you will receive an Itinerary Receipt which holds all details of your booking and trip.
The e-ticket is not a value document whereas the paper ticket is. A paper ticket is subject to theft and loss, but the Itinerary Receipt is not and it does not matter if it is lost or stolen, since it can easily be replaced.
Electronic tickets will be permitted between the following online points in India: Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Cochin and Trivandrum ; to and from online points in the USA Region viz. New York, Newark, Chicago and Los Angeles and to and from London. Passengers availing of stopovers at Paris and Frankfurt will not be able to avail of electronic tickets.
